The Manchester Academy Board of Directors honored its teachers and inducted three new members into the Manchester Hall of Fame Saturday.
Barbara Atkinson, Christy Vandevere and Ted Webb were inducted into Manchester’s Hall of Fame.
“Manchester is blessed with a strong tradition of outstanding teachers at our school, and we saluted our teachers Saturday night,” said M.A. Board President John Murry Greenlee. “In addition, we recognized the extraordinary contributions of Barbara Atkinson, Christy Vandevere and Ted Webb to Manchester Academy by welcoming them into the school’s hall of fame, our most elite organization.”
Barbara Atkinson
Barbara Atkinson is a beloved and highly effective administrative assistant at the school. She began her career at M.A. in 1985 working in the business office and has been a positive force at the school ever since. Her three sons graduated from Manchester and her husband, Buford, served on the board of directors.
Christy Vandevere
Christy Vandevere, a 1971 MA graduate, began her 23-year career at Manchester in 1980 as a math teacher and quickly became an integral part of M.A.’s strong tradition of outstanding math teachers. In the 1990’s, Vandevere opted to pursue a career in counseling and became a popular and productive high school counselor for M.A. students. Christy is married to Albert Vandevere and their two sons graduated from Manchester.
Ted Webb
Ted Webb served as President of the Board of Manchester Academy in its formative years in the 1970s and was a steadying influence for the school as it built facilities, recruited teachers and established itself as a successful college preparatory school in Yazoo County. Ted is married to Pat Webb and all three of their children and two of their granddaughters graduated from M.A.
The Manchester Board of Directors established the M.A. Hall of Fame in 2011 and inducted the following people prior to this year’s class: James Roberts, Martha Jean Byrd, Bev Wood, Buster Crawford, Esther Cartwright, Joan King, Barbara Arnold, Joe Curran, Joanne Wilburn, Will Thompson, M.D., Tommy G. Peaster, Ann Montgomery, Betty Simmons, George Shaw and Sam Ray.
