A long-awaited vision became a reality among county leaders and Pafford paramedics last week as Supervisor Cobie Collins handed over the keys to the ambulance service’s new building.
“It is such a blessing for us to be getting this facility,” said Freddie Parker, with Pafford, last Friday. “This is a testament to the relationship with the county, and we really appreciate it.”
And as final plans for additional utilities and furniture are being ironed out, when will the ambulance service provider move into its new facility?
“As soon as possible,” the paramedics said in unison.
Yazoo County began preparation of the facility’s construction near the District 3 Fire Station about three years ago. For the employees occupying the former facility, located behind Kaye’s Food Market at the Human Services building, the completion of the new building has been a blessing.
The deteriorating condition of the former ambulance service building was a topic of discussion at county meetings for years. The problem even reached a level of urgency, however, in 2020 when a rat infestation and flooding issues made life miserable for Pafford employees.
Former ambulance employees have said the former building had been experiencing problems for close to three decades.
After phasing out the construction and balancing costs and financial backing, county leaders were excited to hand over the keys to Pafford last Friday. The new facility will provide Pafford employees with a parking dock for their ambulances, a kitchen and dining area, a living area, sleeping quarters for both male and female employees, as well as separate restroom and shower facilities.
