The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ (MDWFP) Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) invites visitors to connect with nature at the Museum this April!
“LECTURE: LANDSCAPING FOR HUMMINGBIRDS” (Tuesday, April 7 from Noon – 1 p.m.): Dr. Mark W. LaSalle, naturalist and wetlands ecologist, will show visitors how to make their home landscapes a haven for hummingbirds. This lecture is Included with MMNS Foundation Membership or museum admission.
“NATUREFEST!” (Saturday, April 11 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.): NatureFEST is a festival, a nature outing, and a fascinating museum trip all wrapped into one exciting day. Encounter live animals with Wild Acres, Freedom Ranch, and the Hattiesburg Zoo, go behind-the-scenes with scientists, shop plants from Camp Creek Native Plants and other items from local vendors, explore the “Giants of the Ice Age” exhibit, see artist Ellen Langford paint, and enjoy a children’s story time with Kay Meadows. This event is included with MMNS Foundation Membership or museum admission. Skenny Burgers, Gator’s, and Mo’Betta Desserts food trucks will be on-site (not included). Kick-off the day with the Buffalo Peak Outfitters Hoka 5K Hike/Run (includes NatureFEST admission) - registration required. “MOONLIGHT, MUSIC, AND METEORS”: (Friday, April 17 from 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.): Celebrate America’s 250th birthday and experience a night under the stars with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and area physicists, astronomers, and NASA Solar System Ambassadors during the Lyrid meteor shower at “The Den” in beautiful LeFleur’s Bluff State Park. Advance tickets $20 (until Noon on April 16th) or $25 at the door. This project is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
