William Eugene “Sonny” Porter, age 81, passed away peacefully in his home, Friday February 5, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Sonny was born on October 1, 1939 and was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Emily Hanna Porter, his wife; Jeanette, sisters; Elizabeth Ricker and Faye Gordon, and his brothers; Rudolph Porter, Ray Porter, and Roy Porter .
He is survived by his daughter Janis Hunt of Paragould, Arkansas and his son Reid Porter(Trish) of Yazoo City, as well as his grandson, Clint Hunt (Alicia) and great grandchildren Justin, Mattie, and Paisley Hunt all of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and one brother, Earl Porter of Yazoo City.
Sonny was born and raised in Yazoo County and, except for the time spent serving his country in the U. S. Army, that is where he called home. He was a devoted family and enjoyed time spent with them especially at the family deer camp, “A Family Affair Hunting Club.
After retirement from a lifetime of driving “big trucks” he spent most of his time at the deer camp sitting around the fire laughing, joking singing, and of course running from bears.
Visitation for Sonny will be at Stricklin King Funeral Home Monday February 8th beginning at 12:00 P.M. followed by graveside at Fletcher's Chapel Cemetery in Yazoo County at 2:00 P.M.
