Reports of child abuse, followed with confirmation from medical personnel, led to the arrest of a man by Yazoo County authorities.
Jose Johnson was charged with felony child abuse last Wednesday, according to Simon Stubblefield, with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department.
Stubblefield said family members of a nine-year-old female reported the incident to the sheriff’s department the day prior to the suspect’s arrest.
“The victim’s family members reported that the suspect struck the child on the buttocks with a 2x4 wooden paddle,” Stubblefield said. “The child was then taken to the Blair E. Batson Hospital, where a doctor also considered the bruises child abuse.”
An immediate warrant was then made for Johnson’s arrest, and he turned himself into authorities on April 12.

“The suspect was caught forging someone’s name to a blank check,” Stubblefield said. “In fact, she attempted to cash a check of a deceased person.”
