Lucie Kelly Jones Riggsbee, 81, of Columbus, MS, passed away on December 20, 2024 at Trinity Place in Columbus, MS. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Riggsbee was born December 21, 1942 in Yazoo County, MS to the late Burrus E. Jones and Virginia Kinnison Jones. She graduated from Yazoo High School in 1960. She went on to attend the University of Mississippi Nursing School, graduated as a RN from the University of Florida Nursing School, and received a Master of Nursing Degree from the University of Mississippi Nursing School in 1966. Mrs. Riggsbee had a lifelong career in nursing, including working at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi and being the Director of Nursing in Yazoo City, Mississippi. She also worked for agencies such as the North Carolina Public Health System in Oncology and the Mississippi Public Health System in Health and Nutrition. Mrs. Riggsbee was also licensed as a nurse in Africa and, upon retirement, she spent time in Zambia, Africa working with Prochristo as a missionary nurse. Most importantly, she was a Christian of the Episcopal faith.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Riggsbee is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Riggsbee; and her siblings, Mary Virginia Blackstock, Jo Ann Lee, Burrus E. Jones, and Gladys Ward.
She is survived by her sister, Linda Jones Russell Persons; sister-in-law, Nancy B. Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
