Benton Academy senior Maci Lowery reached an incredible milestone Tuesday as she earned her 500th career strikeout.
Lowery earned the honor in her final home game as a Lady Raider as she and her teammates defeated Canton Academy 8-0 to earn the District 3-AA title.
She struck out 10 batters Tuesday to increase her total to 108 strikeouts this season. On Tuesday she allowed no runs and just two hits against a talented Canton Academy team. On the night before she also struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits in a 7-0 win over Canton.
Lowery has pitched several shutouts this season and a no-hitter.
She is also an elite hitter.
Lowery entered last night’s contest with a .680 batting average with nine home runs, eight doubles and three triples. On Monday she added a hit and an RBI. She picked up home run number nine in Monday’s contest at Canton.
The Lady Raiders will now prepare to enter postseason tournament play riding a nine-game winning streak.
