The Yazoo Chapter Daughter of the American Revolution Good Citizens Awards are given every year to one senior from each of the community’s five local area high schools. These 2022 DAR Good Citizens are chosen for this honor by their counselors/teachers because they exhibit dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
This award offers a scholarship essay portion of the contest, which the student may enter. This year’s essay Contest theme was “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It.”
The winner of the DAR essay part of the award is Kimbriele Faith Sayles, a senior at Yazoo City High School. She is the daughter of James and Kimberly Sayles. Kimberly is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and the Superintendent’s list. While in the work-based Larry Summons Vocational Center, she also volunteered at the Yazoo City Head Start center. Kimbriele was elected team captain of the Yazoo Lady Indians volleyball team. She also works part time for the Yazoo City Mayor’s Office. Kimbriele’s future plans include attending college to pursue her bachelor’s degree in the field of education. She aspires to obtain her Masters and Doctorate degrees with the emphasis on administration and business.
John Harris is Benton Academy’s DAR Good Citizen. He is the son of Lydia Harris. John has the highest average in Chemistry and Spanish. He is Class Treasurer, a member of the Student Council and a member of the Benton Academy Show Choir. John volunteers to help at the football games’ concession stands, helps with the school carnival and takes out trash every day for the school.Through his church, he helps with summer workdays and does some landscaping for elderly people in the summer. John plans to attend Holmes Community College followed by Mississippi State University studying to become a College English Professor. Other goals include working at a library and helping with ministry at his church.
Anna Carol Echols is Yazoo County High School’s DAR Good Citizen. She is the daughter of Michael and Chastity Echols. Anna is a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club with the highest average in Human Anatomy, Physiology and World History. She is also enrolled in dual advanced courses in U.S. and American History and English. In her community Anna volunteers to help the elderly and is a dog sitter. Anna works part time as a cashier at Dollar General. Her future plans are to attend Holmes Community College majoring in Psychology.
Elizabeth “Lizzy” Diane Carpenter is Manchester’s DAR Good Citizen. She is the daughter of Jeffery and Kaley Carpenter. Lizzy is a class officer and a member of the school’s softball, basketball, track and cheer teams. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Yazoo Junior Auxiliary Crown Club. As a member of Parkview Church of God, Lizzy is involved with missions. Her future plans are to attend Mississippi Delta Community College through an athletic softball scholarship. Her plans include getting a degree in accounting. She would like to be an accountant or a math teacher.
Ellie Fae Williamson is Tri County’s DAR Good Citizen. She is the daughter of Jeff and Deborah Williamson. Ellie is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. She is a member of the softball team-4A South State Champion, 4A State Champion and MAIS All Star Team. Ellie is a member of the Tennis Team with the following Girls 3A Doubles Champions: District, South State and State. She is a member of Crown Club of Madison County helping her community. As a member of the First Baptist Church, she participates in her Youth Group and helps in the nursery. Last summer she had her first job providing child care and transportation for a younger child. Ellie plans to attend Copiah Lincoln Community College on a softball scholarship. Her major is undecided, but she is leaning toward eventually attending Seminary School.
