The Manchester Academy Mavericks battled the Marvell Academy Eagles and treacherous weather conditions this past Friday night and were still able to pull out a 44-14 victory.
The scoring opportunities were plentiful for the Mavericks in the first half of action against the Eagles as they raced out to a 16-8 first quarter advantage.
MA would add two more scores in the second quarter and led 30-8 at the halftime break.
When the two teams returned to the field after the intermission, however, Mother Nature unleashed a downpour of rain forcing both teams to depend on their running attacks to lead the way.
Fortunately for Manchester, the two-headed monster that is Greyson Winstead and Tyler Johnson were up to the task.
Manchester scored eight points in the third quarter and six in the fourth while limiting the Eagles to just a fourth quarter TD to seal the win.
Winstead rushed for a game-high 116 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries while Johnson had 100 yards on eight carries as well.
Quarterback Reed Miller completed 5-of-7 pass attempts for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Kemp Black was the leading receiver with four receptions for 65 yards.
The Mavericks end the regular season on the road this Friday at Calhoun Academy.
