What’s Dew Saying: “As a first-year head coach, losing all five starters and the top three reserves, this will be a rebuilding year for the boys,” said Dew. “We are in a tough district and it will be a challenging season, but the guys have worked hard in the off-season and are ready for the challenge.”
Season Outlook: The success of the MA football team (where Dew also serves as assistant coach) will delay the Mavs hoops’ season opener until after Thanksgiving break. Bass’ inside-outside scoring ability should make him a tough cover for Maverick defenders while Johnson and Winstead’s physical play on the gridiron should translate well to the post on the court. Dew will have to find the ball handling to replace guards Parks and Jon Riley Poe if Manchester is to have any success. It may take some time, but Dew hopes to have his Mavericks ready to compete by the time the post season arrives.
