The Yazoo City Indians opened the 2021-22 basketball season this past weekend with a 64-44 victory over Germantown in the Holmes Central Classic played at Holmes Community College.
The Indians were led in scoring by senior Jacquarrius Collum with 22 points.
Also scoring double figures for the Indians were Will Grayson with 16 and Damarion Winston with 15. Tamarion Hoover added five and Davionne Bouldin, Jakori Jones, and Daveon Henry each scored two.
Winston was the top rebounder with six, followed by Hoover with five, and Collum, Grayson, Jones and Dalon Henry, all with four.
Collum and Winston shared top honors in assists with five each.
Yazoo City opened up with a 17-7 first quarter and extended their halftime lead to 21, 39-18.
The Indians continued to pour it on in the third quarter, outscoring Germantown 20-11 and led 59-29 with one quarter remaining.
The Mavericks posted a 15-5 fourth quarter advantage, but the game’s outcome had already clearly been decided.
As a team, the Indians shot 35 percent from behind the three-point arc, 53 percent from two-point territory and 70 percent from the foul line.
Yazoo City traveled to McComb Tuesday and hosts the Brandon Buldogs next Tuesday (Nov. 9) and the Canton Tigers next Thursday (Nov. 11).
