The good times keep on rolling for Yazoo City High School head coach Anthony Carlyle and his Indians.
After a thrilling one-point victory over rival Canton last Friday, the Indians won their seventh game in a row Monday night with a 19-point, 62-43 victory over the Callaway Chargers.
The Indians improved to 10-4 on the season and opened the holiday season on a high note.
Grayson scored early and often against Callaway, outscoring them 7-0 by himself to open the contest. The Chargers, however, had the lead, 12-9, after one quarter of play.
Yazoo City posted a 13-8 second quarter and held a slim 22-20 lead at halftime.
The Indians outscored Callaway 15-11 in the third quarter and put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, going on a 25-12 run down the stretch to seal the win.
Senior Jaquarrius Collum added to the scoring with 19 points followed by Tamarion Hoover with nine, Damarion Winston with six, and Jacquaris Rogers and Chris Burnett with three apiece.
Winston led the team with nine rebounds while Rogers and Burnett had six each. Grayson also led the way in assists with five.
Lady Chargers 44, Lady Indians 41
In girls action, the Lady Indians looked like they were on their way to win number two on the season against the Lady Chargers, but things fell apart in the closing minutes of the game.
Yazoo City led the entire game, racing out of the gates to a 10-2 first quarter advantage.Callaway, however, posted an 11-5 second quarter and trailed 15-13 at intermission.
The Lady Indians outscored the Lady Chargers 16-14 in the third quarter and led 31-27 with a quarter remaining.
Unfortunately for Lady Indian fans, Callaway benefited from a few costly turnovers down the stretch and a mysterious technical foul called against YHS head coach Mario Edwards that helped them escape with the three-point win.
E’kemi Johnson was the top Lady Indian scorer with 14 points. Jaya Gallion added nine, Talasia Green and Shanya Arrington had six apiece, Torletta Johnson had three, Sincere Fleming had two and A’kayla Hudson one.
