Benton Academy was forced to wait a week to begin their 2021 football campaign after their first scheduled game was cancelled due to Covid-19 concerns.
Unfortunately for Oak Hill Academy, the battle of Raiders would be won by Benton as the visiting Raiders unleashed two-weeks worth of pent up energy on their opponent en route to a 59-41 victory.
Benton had a whopping 555 yards of total offense on the night (298 rushing, 257 passing) and received a show-stopping performance from the quarterback-running back duo of J.B. Middleton and Caden Stevens.
Stevens marched through the Oak Hill defense like a hot knife through butter, racking up 274 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries while Middleton was just as lethal through the air, connecting on 11-of-22 passes for 257 yards and five touchdowns.
Middleton also rushed for 24 yards.
Ben Boggan was Middleton’s favorite target on the night with seven receptions for 191 yards and four touchdowns.
Moore had one reception for 44 yards and a TD, Landon Lowery had two receptions for 16 yards, and Rye Yeates had one catch for six yards.
Benton hopes to continue their winning ways as they play at home for the first time this season Friday night when they host Lee Academy.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
