With a 38-6 thrashing of the visiting Humphreys County Cowboys, the Yazoo City Indians improved to 2-0 on the season heading into this week’s rivalry game against Yazoo County.T
he Indians totalled 243 yards of offense on the night and were led by running back Travion Reese. Reese rushed for 144 yards on 16 carries and had three touchdowns in leading the Indians to victory.
Yazoo City opened the game with a touchdown pass from Christopher Burnett to Nikqwan Parker giving the Indians an 8-0 lead.
Reese scored the first of his three TD's early in the second quarter and defensive back Jacquaris Rogers returned an interception for a touchdown to give the Indians a 22-6 halftime lead. Reese would tack on his final two scores in the third quarter as the Indians cruised to the win.
Offensively for Yazoo City, Burnett completed 4-of-9 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. On the receiving end, Parker led the way with two receptions for 28 yards and Reese, Rogers and Tyler Mitchell each had a reception.
The Indians defense was led by Quin Woods with five tackles, followed by Trelin Barnes with four and Katavian Whitehead, Martraveon Carson, and Anthony Brown each with three. Rogers had two tackles to go along with his pick-six.
Alton Taylor and L.T. Brown also had a pair of fumble recoveries.
