Yazoo City’s most acclaimed author Willie Morris will soon have a historical marker placed within his hometown in remembrance of his contributions to the literary world. It was a perfect announcement in the late author’s memory, whose birthday was last Monday.
Mayor Diane Delaware said the historical marker is slated to be placed in Yazoo City on Jan. 10, 2022.
Morris immortalized Yazoo City in much of his work, and he created a local legend known throughout the world with the Witch of Yazoo from Good Old Boy. In fact, Morris is buried not far from the Witch’s Grave in Glenwood Cemetery. In 1967, Morris became the youngest editor of Harper’s Magazine. And he brought beloved books to the literary world with North Toward Home and My Dog Skip, among several others.
More information on the dedication ceremony of the historical marker will be shared closer to the Jan. 10 date.
