Due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, the City of Yazoo City and its partner, Waste Pro, have several employees and drivers who have tested positive for COVID or have been exposed to someone with COVID. This causes a driver shortage.
The city released a statement that said Yazoo City residents may experience delays in garbage and trash pick-up.
“We ask that businesses and residents please be patient and bear with us during this time,” the statement said. “The delays caused by COVID-19 will continue for a while until the surge in cases subside. Yazoo City is not unique experiencing delays. Delays in services are being seen around the state and country caused by employees and partner staffing being out with COVID-19.”
The release said city employees are working to provide high quality and timely municipal services under these current circumstances, and Waste Pro is working diligently to place drivers in areas where COVID-19 has impacted service quality and caused delays.
Yazoo City staff remains in contact with Waste Pro and will deploy other solutions should the problem continue.
“Thank you for your understanding and patience due to these circumstances,” the city said. “Let’s all work together to keep our community clean."
