Thanks to the state’s lottery funds, an overlaying project is wrapping up on about 12 miles of road in rural Yazoo County as work crews add the finishing touches to the project.
This lottery funded project covered the overlay of 12 miles of Highway 433 from Highway 3 to Highway 49. Crews are working on driveway pads and placing shoulder gravel and permanent stripe.
The $2.1 million contract was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen, Inc., of Jackson.
Yazoo County Supervisor Lee Moore said he is very appreciative of the funding and work that arrived in Yazoo County, adding that it has been several years since these specific roadways have seen any improvements. He also said the improved materials used in the project were critical in making the road safer and smoother.
“We are still hoping to do Cox Ferry Road, Hilderbrand Road, Paradise Road, White Oak Subdivision area, Big Mound Road, Center Ridge Road, Steed Lane and Freeman Lane,” Moore added.
Commissioner Willie Simmons, Central Transportation District, said the Yazoo County project was one of several Mississippi Department of Transportation maintenance projects in western Mississippi.
“These projects show your tax dollars at work,” said Simmons. “As crews work to complete these projects, motorists are reminded to slow down and be on high alert for roadside workers.”
Simmons said these recent projects are a major investment into the state’s infrastructure.
“We look forward to seeing these projects through that will greatly improve safety and efficiency throughout western Mississippi,” Simmons said.
Moore also wanted to thank Simmons and MDOT for assisting in the repair of Old Highway 16 after traffic was redirected while Highway 16 was being repaired recently.
