Yazoo City High School’s 2023 track season came to an end last week at the North State tournament held at Pontotoc High School.
Representing the Lady Indians in the 4x100 relay were Avianna Allen, Lakyra Bankhead, E’kemii Johnson and Eternity Pepper.
The 4x200 relay team included Bankhead, Johnson, Pepper and Kirsten Newman.
Both teams finished in fifth place, just out of the top four that advance to state.
The 4x200 team ran a 1:51.57 to finish fifth behind Gentry, who ran a 1:51.40.
The 4x100 team ran a 54.02 just behind Shannon’s 52.45.
Despite the outcome, YHS head girls track coach Stacey Leach was still very pleased with the season.
“I am very proud of these girls because they are a team full of sophomores and freshman who were competing for the first time against seasoned programs,” said Leach. “They did great for their first season, but now they can see the dedication it’s going to take to be successful. I think that they are going to come back next season ready to work hard everyday.”
