Both Yazoo City and Yazoo County high schools participated in the 1st Annual Hwy 82 Delta Challenge played at the Leflore County Civic Center in Greenwood over the Thanksgiving break.
The Lady Indians defeated Thomas Edwards 59-13; the Indians defeated Shaw in overtime, 57-53; the Lady Panthers were victorious over Holmes County, 56-41 while the Panthers lost a close one to Gentry, 66-62.
In Lady Indian action, Torletta Johnson and E’kemii Johnson led the way with 17 and 15 points respectively.
Malia Mcpherson added nine, Lakyra Bankhead seven, I’liciona White four, Jermya Porter three, and Kalia Evand and Makeelah McCullum two apiece.
Torletta Johnson was named the Player of the Game.
Against Shaw, the Indians had three players reach double digits led by Demond Collum with 20. Caleb Crozier chipped in with 17 and Jacolby Little added 11. Jahiem Sims added four, and Jamerio Effinger and Chris Gates each had two. Little was named Player of the Game.
For the Lady Panthers, Player of the Game LaDashia Taylor set the pace with 17 points.
Kamillia Jones scored nine, Jakayla Washington and Mashunti Demus each had seven, Jayla Snow had six, Ankaysha Henderson had five, and London Love scored three.
Amari Southern’s 21 points and Zi’Quarrious Demus’ 16 led the Panther scoring against the Rams.
Roderick Knight chipped in with eight, Ladon Watts and Anthony Hudson had five apiece, and Tylen Greer, TJ Rials and Dakwin Reasor each scored two.
In other holiday action, the Indians and Lady Indians also picked up a pair of victories in the Poplarville Thanksgiving Classic held ad Pearl River Community College.
The Lady Indians defeated North Forrest 58-24 and the Indians routed Richton 67-36.
E’kemii Johnson netted a career-high 36 points in the win over North Forrest. Jermya Porter chipped in with eight points and 14 rebounds, Makenzie Johnson had six, Torletta Johnson and Mcpherson had three apiece, and White had two.
Little and Collum led the way with 18 and 16 points respectively while Jacorion Taylor also had double figures off the bench with 11.
Gates added seven, Rickal Session six, Jamarion Edwards five and Chemion Banks four.
