The Yazoo City Indians knew they were facing a tough task heading into their regular season finale against Cleveland Central.
Never mind the fact that the Wolves were the No. 1 seed in the district and playing on Homecoming Night. The Indians were also without the services of starting quarterback Tyler Tylor, who was lost for the season with a shoulder injury last week.
Surprisingly, the Indians matched the Wolves score for score and the game was tied at 12 just before halftime.
Unfortunately for the Indians, Cleveland Central scored on a touchdown pass right before the half to take a 20-12 lead into the break and never looked back.
They came out of the locker room and scored 21 unanswered points to secure a 41-12 victory.
The Indians, 4-6, will hit the road this Friday and travel to perennial powerhouse West Point, 7-3, for a first-round playoff opener.
Desmond Johnson led the Indian offense with 96 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.
Marquez Green had 16 carries for 64 yards and Cormarion McBride had one carry for four yards.
Wide receiver turned quarterback Amarion Brown completed 5-of-12 passes for 98 yards and one interception.
His favorite target on the evening was Tobias McGee with four catches for 88 yards. Green had one catch for 10 yards.
Deon Johnson’s six tackles led the YHS defense. Sherman had four and Maurice Booker, Jaleen Barber, Isaiah Robinson, Johnny Barber and Vontavious Bass each had two.
Robinson and Johnny Barber also had INTs.
