A suspect involved with fleeing the scene after crashing a vehicle into a Yazoo City home following an alleged shooting remains at large.
Investigator Richard Brooks, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the incident occurred about 11:40 p.m. on March 13. Although there were three people inside the home, he also said no injuries were reported.
Officers were first dispatched to a home at 828 Prentiss Ave. in reference to a shooting.
“Upon arrival, officers found a 1997 Buick Park Avenue had been fired upon, which caused the driver of the vehicle to lose control,” Brooks said. “The driver then collided with a parked car before driving through a fence and into the living room of the residence. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, officers found the vehicle running with the driver having fled the scene.”
Brooks said the driver of the vehicle remains at large, adding that investigators do have a person of interest.
“Persons within the home advised they heard gun shots prior to the vehicle crashing into their home,” Brooks said. “No one inside the home reported injuries to the police.”
The American Red Cross was also notified to assist the family, who boarded up their home prior to leaving the scene.
Brooks said the owner of the crashed vehicle later contacted investigators, stating that he allowed a friend to use his vehicle at the time of the accident. The vehicle remains at the police department after it was towed from the scene.
About two days following the accident, a neighbor also reported a bullet hole inside their home.
“Yazoo City police detectives responded and observed that a bullet appeared to have entered through the neighbor’s window, went through a mattress and lodged into a wall,” Brooks said.
The case remains under investigation, and any information can be reported to Brooks at the Yazoo City Police Department.
