A local business is looking to expand its operation and workforce, bringing additional employment opportunities while promoting the local economy.
Shivers Building provided the sole bid of $55,000 to the Yazoo Port Commission for the purchase of 11 acres of land off of Highway 3 near the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility. The acreage is adjacent to the current location of the Shivers Building operation.
Barry Bridgforth, port commission board attorney, presented Shivers’ proposal to the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors. The Yazoo Port Commission has accepted the bid and asked the county board to approve it as well.
“Shivers Building has experienced substantial growth in the manufacturing sector, significantly impacted our production capabilities and employee rates,” Bridgforth read from Shivers’ bid. “From a modest team of 16 employees two years ago, we have proudly extended our work force to 60 dedicated professionals.”
The bid continued to state that the 11 acres would provide the opportunity for expansion and additional employment opportunities.
Supervisor Joseph Thomas Jr. said he also spoke with the company about possibly exchanging the agreement with the purchase of a livable unit for the warden of the local county jail. The county board took the bid under advisement to finalize the details.
