Ricks Memorial Library has some exciting programs planned for local youth this month.
“Our programs this month are Halloween themed with a bit of culture thrown in for good measure,” said Lauren Woodliff, children’s librarian. “I also put some of our scary books and books about magic in a special Halloween section.”
Below is a list of events.
Thursday, October 15: Farmyard Fear: Come to the children’s room at 4 PM and listen to “The Chicken Coop Monster” from an award winning collection of short stories. Then make paper bag chickens, while listening to Delta blues artist, Super Chikan; and do the chicken dance.
Thursday, October 22: In Celebration of the Shelleys: Come to the children’s room at 4 PM and listen to an excerpt of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and a very abridged, simplified version of the beginning of the story. Then participate in a poetry reading contest of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poems and make town monsters out of doll and action figure body parts.
Thursday, October 29:, Witch Way to Yazoo: Come to the children’s room at 4 PM, listen to the story of our local witch from Willie Morris’ Good Old Boy, and go trick or treating around the library. There will be a possible appearance of the good witch.
All programs are free.
