On October 22, 2017, the Yazoo chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented to the Yazoo Historical Society the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Historic Preservation Award for Excellent Volunteer Work in Historic Preservation.
Janet Looney Whittington, Past NSDAR Vice President General, Honorary MSSDAR State Regent and Yazoo Chapter Regent, presented the Award to Sue Patterson, President of the Yazoo Historical Society.
Some of the accomplishments of the Yazoo Historical Society are: placing Historical Markers throughout Yazoo County, reopening the Yazoo County Museum in 2007 and delivering a flash drive containing records of the historic Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City through 1991 with plans to finish up through 2017 by 2018.
The award was given at the Yazoo Historical Society yearly meeting at the Triangle Cultural Center.
Members and guests were treated to a buffet of cheeses and sweets after the meeting.
