Marcus Straughter Jr., an upcoming senior at Yazoo City High School, participated in the Career Development Conference that was sponsored by Jobs for Mississippi Graduates.
The Career Association is a student-led organization that offers opportunities to create a sense of belonging and put skills into action. Career Association members elect officers, and all students serve on committees. An essential part of the JMG program is the student-led Career Association. Students selected for the program are automatically members of the Career Association. The Chapter Activities Plan provides leadership development, civic awareness, social awareness, career exploration and community service. The Career Association provides a unique vehicle for developing, practicing and refining skills, knowledge and motivation needed for success in the world of work.
JMG is a part of Jobs for America’s Graduates. The JAG Career Association is the only student organization operating in high schools for today’s youth. It provides chapter members with unique opportunities to develop the JMG competencies through the Chapter Activities Plan. The Career Association provides competitive events designed to stimulate student involvement and acquisition of JMG’s core competencies and develops leadership skills through service as a local or state officer or committee chair and involvement in local and/or state conferences.
Straughter competed against other students from across the state who are also in JMG. He placed second in the math competition of the CDC last week. The JMG specialist is Earlene Hill, and the principal is Michael Tardy.
