Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the final inning, Benton Academy junior Maci Lowery found herself in a spot where she often seems to be at her best: in a position to make a big play with the game on the line.
Lowery blasted a two-run walk off home run to secure a 5-4 win against Central Holmes Monday.
The win demonstrated how much faith BA head coach Chad Smith has in the top of his lineup as the Lady Raiders intentionally walked three batters in the top of the seventh inning and actually gave the Lady Trojans the lead with the bases loaded.
Central Holmes took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before Benton responded in the fourth. Lura Greco started things off for BA with an RBI single and Perry Kate grounded out while driving in two more runs.
The Lady Trojans went ahead in the top of the seventh as Benton took the risk of intentionally walking batters and allowing two runs.
Lowery went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. She also earned the win on the mound.
Kaitlyn Becker also had a pair of hits for the Lady Raiders. Brynn Blackstock and Lura Greco each had a hit.
The Lady Raiders entered the contest after a 13-5 district win over Humphreys Academy.
Blackstock drove in five runs on two hits to lead the way in that game. Blackstock had a three-run home run in the sixth inning and singled to score two runs in the third.
Annalise Turner, Perry Kate Kraft, Leta Greco and Blackstock had two hits each for Benton.
Madison Ledbetter earned the win against Humphreys with Lowery coming in to relieve her for the save.
