James Kevin Ellis, 62, born Oct. 18, 1963 passed away peacefully on Feb. 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted father, Papaw and friend whose life was defined by his deep love for the outdoors and the people closest to his heart.
An avid fisherman, Kevin found peace on the water when he had a pole in his hand. He had a true appreciation for nature and those moments were even more meaningful when shared with family.
Kevin cherished his family. He was never happier than when he was spending time with his kids, grand kids and Diane, who were the light of his life. He took pride in being a steady presence-offering guidance, laughter and unconditional love. He will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and the way he showed his love, not just through action but through words. He leaves behind a family who will forever carry his spirit with them. He will be deeply missed and remembered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rayford Leroy Ellis and Ramona Jean Ellis; brother, Rayford Leroy Ellis Jr. (Lee); and grandparents, Ruby Jeff Ellis, Reecie Pierce Ellis, J.A. Sisson Woods and Ruth Carter Woods.
Survivors include his daughter, Kayla Jean Ellis; son, James Lee Ellis (Tosha); fiancée, Diane Kirby; grandchildren, Rivers Ellis, Laira Porter, Knox Ellis, Caden Kilpatrick and Dawson Kilpatrick; sister, Gail Conner (Larry); nephews, Jason Connor and George Conner; and niece, Adrienne Cassady.
