Dear Editor,
Our latest flood was more of an act of God and not the lack of attention our city workers give to our city. The head is no better than the tail. We elect people to go to Washington to look after our best interest. We have a senator. They won’t act unless the head asks for help and presents a plan.
The only way that is going to happen is you, the voters, to let your voice be heard. It is time we elect people who have a platform. What are they going to promote? Hold them accountable at the next election. It’s time we stopped letting our elections be a popularity contest. No one should be elected without some kind of open concern for their community.
Crime is up in our community, and it is not adults. It’s our children. With nothing else to do, they will continue to increase the crime rate. Point one, no recreation in their community. We have a dysfunctional recreation department who’s only intent is cutting grass and don’t do that well. They work on ballfields that no one plays on. Our city workers get no respect from their supervisor, and is not compensation for the work they do. A raise has been in order for a long time, as I have stated before, this tail could be no better than the head.
I will let you fill in the blanks. They do our dirty work and is not looked upon as they should be. It’s time for action and only you the citizens of the community can do that. Start now, looking for leaders who will lead us out of the gutter we are in. In this letter, I want to say all that needs to be said. But I will when the time comes. I’m going to do everything in my power not to let our next election be a popularity contest but one that committed to leading us in a new direction. Especially, our children. It takes a village. Let’s get one started.
Sincerely,
Coach Johnny Staples
