The investigation continues with local and state agencies to apprehend the group of suspects who ambushed, assaulted and kidnapped a Yazoo City couple earlier this month.
Cpt. Richard Brooks, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said a local man and woman were assaulted and kidnapped from a home on Cypress Circle on May 11. As of press time, no arrests have been made.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations has joined forces with local investigators in the case since the incident crossed jurisdiction lines outside of Yazoo City.
“I actually met with MBI yesterday, and MBI is following leads that go outside of my jurisdiction lines, as far as Vicksburg,” Brooks said. “We have acquired video surveillance footage from different places, and we are very much still working on this case.”
A female victim was ambushed by a group of suspects outside of her home before being tied up while her home was ransacked. The victim’s boyfriend, who later arrived on the scene, was also assaulted before the suspects stole his jewelry and money.
Brooks said the suspects eventually placed both victims in the female’s Cadillac Escalade and left the scene. The suspects also had their own vehicle, which followed the stolen victim’s vehicle, towards the Clinton area. The female victim was then released in her vehicle with instructions to obtain ransom money for her boyfriend.
The suspects placed the male victim in the trunk of their vehicle, removing his pants and shoes, before heading into Warren County. However, the male victim was able to escape from the trunk and ran to a nearby home where he contacted the authorities.
