Interim department heads for Yazoo City’s public works and fire departments were named during Monday’s city council meeting.
Fire Chief Ricky Harris and Public Works Director Robert Green both announced their upcoming retirements and submitted their resignation letters to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen earlier this month.
Green’s last day was March 24, and Harris’ will be on March 31.
The interim heads for those two departments were made this week with Kenny Washington heading the city fire department and Otha Gilmore leading the public works department.
Gilmore’s appointment was approved unanimously with all five council members in support. Washington’s appointment was made on a 4-1 vote with Alderwoman Elizabeth Thomas abstaining.
