The Yazoo City Indians baseball team picked up a pair of district wins last week in a home doubleheader against the Gentry Rams.
Yazoo City defeated the Rams 16-1 and 18-0 to improve to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in district play.
Indians 16, Rams 1
In Game One, the Indians got on board in the first inning after Demond Collum singled to score two runs and a Gentry error plated two more runs, giving Yazoo City a 4-0 lead.
The Indians added to the lead in the second inning after Jeremarione Tate and Melvin Robinson each stole home to score runs.
In the bottom of the third, Yazoo City scored three more runs on three hits when Tate singled to drive in two runs, Robinson singled to score a run and Quinnterrion Wright drew a walk to score another run.
Mitchell and Tate led the way at the plate with two hits apiece for the Indians and Collum led with two RBI.
The Indians were patient at the plate, amassing nine walks which in turn led to 33 stolen bases on the day.
Anarjai Mitchell picked up the win on the mound for the Indians. He struck out eight batters, while walking three and allowing no hits over three innings.
Indians 18, Rams 0
Game Two started the same way as the first outing with the Indians getting on the board quick, fast and in a hurry. Robinson doubled in the top of the first to score two runs and eventually stole home, scoring a run.
The onslaught continued as the Indians scored eight runs on six hits in the top half of the second inning. A.J. Ingram drew a pair of walks to score two runs, a Mitchell single drove in two more runs, Robinson singled, plating a pair of runs and Jamarion Edwards rounded things off with an inside the park home run.
After a short bottom half of the inning for Gentry, Yazoo City returned to the plate and added seven more runs on six hits. The inning was highlighted by an RBI double by McKinley Edwards, a Jeremy McCoy RBI single, and a triple by Robinson that also scored a run, and a single from Ingram that plated three runs.
Jamarion Edwards gave up one hit while striking out two batters in his win on the mound. YHS totalled 13 hits in the game, led by Robinson who went 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBI. The Indians also stole 19 bases and went error-free the entire game.
Yazoo City visits Cleveland Central Thursday.
