Yazoo County man charged with murdering grandmother

A Yazoo County man is charged with murdering his grandmother and setting her house on fire.

Tyrone Grant, 38, of Benton is charged with capital murder and arson following the death of 84-year-old Velma Granderson.

Sheriff Jake Sheriff said that Grant admitted to investigators that he murdered his grandmother.

Supervisors say county schools should not raise taxes

Members of the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors said they are opposed to any effort by the Yazoo County School District to raise taxes during the upcoming fiscal year.
Board President Cobie Collins said he has been informed that the school district plans to request a millage increase for the upcoming year.

Suspected church burglar arrested

A rural Yazoo County church was burglarized this week, with deputies charging a man and his juvenile accomplice in the crime.
Jesse Flegger, 25, was charged with burglary of a church and involving a juvenile in a felony.
