Bertha Hudson Adams, 89, died Dec. 22, 2015 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Jan. 2 at Chapel Hill M.B. Church with Rev. Johnny Dodd officiating. Burial followed at Christan Grove M.B. Church under the direction of Knight & Lindsey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Adams, affectionately known as “Snap,” was born April 6, 1926 in Benton to LeAndrew and Hudson and Amanda Syas Hudson Brown. She accepted Christ at an early age at Christian Grove M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. A.B. Jones. She served faithfully as an usher and later as a mother until her health began to fail.
She was engaged to Henry Granderson, and to this union one child was born. She later married Earnest Lee Adams Sr. on Oct. 4, 1947, and to this union seven children were born.
Survivors include her daughters O.V. Thomas (Henry), Ruthie Hawkins and Shirley Butler (Tony); sisters, Birdie Mae Robinson, Minnie Brown, Pearlie Brown and Delcenia Moorehead, all of Yazoo County; 21 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; a very special couple whom adopted as her own, Sylvester and Cassandra Walker; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy Adams Jr., Robert Hawkins II, Jimmy Freeman Jr., Don Purvis, Mike Adams and Sylvester Walker.
Honorary pallbearers were Henry Thomas, Roy Hawkins Jr., Kendric Thomas, Tony Butler, Jason Adams and McDaniel Gatson.
