On Saturday, January 24, 2026, Howard Taft Webb, Jr. passed away in Oxford, Mississippi.
Howard was born in DeWitt, Arkansas, in July of 1945. He was a banker for over 40 years and attended Delta State University and graduated from Belhaven College. He completed the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. Howard served as Mayor of Louise, Mississippi, for over 20 years, that included a tenure spanning the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s. He was a member of the Mississippi Municipal League, that held an included the accomplishment of Hall of Fame.
Howard proudly served in the US Army Reserve 173rd Quartermaster Company that was deployed during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Oxford-University United Methodist Church.
Howard is survived by his beloved wife, Vicky, of 55 years, and his two children, Kim (Ted) of Oxford, Mississippi, and Taft (Amy) of Madison, Mississippi. He will be
remembered and revered by four grandchildren, Taft, Sara Margaret, Webb, and Hughes, and his sister, Dianna Jenkins. Howard will be missed by many nieces and
nephews and former colleagues in banking.
Howard never met a stranger and will always be remembered for his genuine love of people and good sense of humor, with many of his sentences starting with “Let me
show you something I learned in Vietnam.” His family never quite knew what to expect.
Howard was so proud of his grandson, Taft, and his pitching ability, Sara Margaret, and her dance and cheer routines, Webb for his incredible gaming skills, and Hughes for his uncanny ability to dismantle a house or room in seconds.
Visitation will be Friday, January 30, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. at First Methodist Church. Burial will be held at Glenwood Cemetery following the service. All arrangements are under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home.
