The local industrial park area on Highway 3 has been bustling with recent activity from agricultural businesses to building and contractual services. The excitement surrounding the area was just one of the key points that attracted Yazoo County native Randy Hanna and his son to begin their own chapter with Hanna’s Appliance and H & H Appliance Service.
“I am super excited about the Highway 3 area,” Hanna said. “A lot of people in our community don’t just make a trip out this way, and they may not know what is happening on Highway 3. But this is one of the brightest spots in the community right now.”
Hanna opened the doors to Hanna’s Appliance, located across the street from Davis Feed and Seed, last December. And he is happy with the community’s response so far in a full-service appliance store.
“The community has been very supportive of the business through these short four months we have been in business,” he said. “I have been well pleased with how things have been going.”
Hanna’s experience in the appliance industry goes back many years. And although he considered himself retired, he decided to jump back into the business he understands and enjoys so much.
“About three and a half years ago I retired, but I was always endeared to Yazoo City and the community,” Hanna said. “I felt like I could offer the community something that we have never had before…a dedicated appliance store with folks who know the industry, know the products and can advise the customer as to meeting their needs.”
Within his career, Hanna said he has worked in a variety of roles within the appliance industry. From the retail sector to the two-step distribution sector to working for manufacturers, he has seen just about every side of the business.
“For the last 25 years, I have been heavily involved in the wholesale appliance industry,” he said. “It has provided me with the opportunity to get to know how independent dealers function, what makes them successful and what areas they can improve in.”
“I have played more of a consultant role in the industry,” he continues. “But I always enjoyed the appliance industry. It has and is a lot of fun.”
His son Josh also joined into the new business endeavor with the addition of H & H Appliance Service.
“Prior to my retirement, I saw a need for good quality, professional appliance technicians in the marketplace,” Hanna said. “Seven years ago, my son Josh got involved in the service side, and he is a true professional technician.”
Hanna’s Appliances offers stock products in all categories from refrigeration and gas and electric ranges to laundry products, dishwashers and over-the-range microwaves. Hanna will also soon welcome room air conditioning units.
“My primary line is General Electric,” he said. “But H & H Appliance Services offer service to all makes and models. We aspire to expand into some other peripheral categories, such as gas and electric hot water heaters and mini-split air conditioning units. We are currently in the process of talking with representatives and companies in getting those products here.”
Hanna said the goal of his business is to “provide the community with professional advice concerning consumer home appliances.”
“Our motto is ‘the customers rule,’” he said. “We are here to serve, and we want to meet the needs of consumers in Yazoo City and the surrounding areas.”
And Yazoo City was the perfect place to start.
“We have multiple business here on Highway 3 that are doing tremendous business,” Hanna said. “And now we are out there as a true retail appliance dealer. I am really encouraged about the business and look forward to serving the community and beyond. My family goes back many generations in Yazoo. Roots run deep.”
