After a special meeting on the subject of the police chief Thursday another meeting has been scheduled for Monday with the appointment of the next chief as the only item on the agenda.
Most of today's meeting was held behind closed doors in executive session with the board citing personnel matters.
Mayor Diane Delaware did not attend today's meeting. Ward 4 Alderwoman Elizabeth Thomas said the board could not vote on hiring the next chief today because she was informed by the board's attorney that all members needed to be present for the vote.
District Attorney Akillie Malone Oliver spoke to the board during executive session.
The meeting was called by Thomas and Ward 3 Alderman Sir Johnathan Rucker. Thomas told The Yazoo Herald that she believes the board was provided with misleading information during the previous board meeting when the board replaced interim police chief Jay Winstead with Thaddeus Jones. Jones was previously serving as the assistant administrator.
Delaware, Ward 1 Alderman Ron Johnson and Ward 2 Alderman Andre Lloyd, who is a former Yazoo police chief, voted for the change with Rucker voting against it and Thomas abstaining.
Rucker said he voted against the change because he thought Winstead was doing a good job and wasn't being offered the job because he intended to manage to the department independently without being micromanaged by elected officials.
