Much-needed updates with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department recording software are needed to ensure the local department is aligned with federal guidelines for the upcoming year.
The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors is looking to partner with Motorola in a five-year lease plan to update the sheriff’s department’s software and hardware at a price tag of about $640,000. The lease plan would cost about $128,000 annually over the course of five years.
County leaders want to get the ball rolling so penalty fees will not be applied as they transition to federal guidelines.
Of the upgrades, about $50,000 will be applied to software. About $62,000 will go towards updated hardware, including five Motorola radios and 17 WatchGuard body and in-car cameras.
Grant funds, including a few with Homeland Security for body cameras and computers, are also being pursued that could be applied to the upgraded system.
