Five juveniles were charged in connection to a shooting in Yazoo City last week. Although no injuries were reported in the shooting, the juvenile suspects were apprehended with stolen firearms in their possession.
Thanks to a combined effort of the Yazoo City Police Department and the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, five juveniles were arrested a few hours after receiving reports of shots being fired into two homes on Levee Street and Madison Street last Monday at 4:30 a.m.
Investigator Simon Stubblefield, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said video surveillance from the adjacent Wise Apartment Complex assisted both deputies and officers in identifying the five juvenile suspects.
“The footage showed five individuals walking through the apartment complex, holding guns,” Stubblefield said. “Those same five suspects were seen at 8 a.m., walking down railroad tracks with one suspect still holding a shotgun in his hand.”
Stubblefield said a short foot pursuit followed with all five suspects being apprehended.
“From that arrest, we recovered three firearms that were reported stolen,” he added.
The five juveniles were charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling with one suspect also being charged with possession of a stolen firearm.
“Three of the suspects were already out on bond for previous felony charges,” Stubblefield said. “All the suspects were within the age range of 13 to 17 years old.”
