An escapee from the local county jail who had been on the run since last month has been apprehended in Jackson.
The United States Marshals Service captured Glen Bassett, who had been on the run from authorities for the past few weeks, last Wednesday.
Bassett had been on the run since he and three other inmates escaped from the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility on March 24.
Along with Bassett, the three other suspects who escaped the local jail included Marlon Willis of Madison, Tenn.; and Marcus Green and Deliuwon Stowers, both from Yazoo.
Days following the escape, Stowers was apprehended on Fouche Pit Road. Green and Willis were arrested in other areas, including Shady Lane and Belzoni.
Following an investigation, four jail employees were charged with the escape plan. Those employees charged include Edward Moore, Xzavia Shelby, Jkwon Jefferson and Tavashea Holmes. The investigation led to another jail employee being arrested for her alleged involvement in a separate issue. Nequina Adams was also charged with smuggling contraband into the jail.
Sheriff Jeremy McCoy told The Herald it appeared as if a door was breached leading into the outside perimeter of the facility.
“The outside door was breached by the jail staff, not the inmates,” McCoy said. “The inmates padded themselves with extra clothing to be able to cross over the barbed wire fence. They were able to get over the first fence. And then, with the extra padding of the clothing, they were also able to get over the second fence with the razor wire.”
