The Yazoo City Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted the Juanita Scott Washington Joyful Holiday Celebration on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the L.T. Miller/H.A. Scott Community Center.
The affair was orchestrated by the sorority's Social Action Committee and chaired by Soror Joyce Nunn. Local members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Xi Kappa Kappa also provided their able assistance in this mission, for which the sorority is grateful. The event is geared towards honoring senior citizens in the community.
Several years ago, the membership decided to rename this yearly event in the name of Soror Juanita Scott Washington, one of the charter members of the chapter, who was a perfect choice due to her giving and benevolent spirit and her ready willingness to serve.
The sisterhood ran a very smooth operation by delivering lunches via a drive-through system. Normally, There is a sit down luncheon inside the community center, complete with a program and entertainment. However, due to the still existing COVID-19, the group reverted to the drive-through, which was very successful and well-received by the community. Delta Sigma Theta was happy to serve, and thanks the community for its participation.
