Elizabeth Howell Davis, age 86, of Yazoo City, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 21, with her family by her side.
Liz was born in Yazoo City in 1939 and spent her life rooted in faith, family, and community. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose strong faith touched everyone who knew her. Liz had a deep love for the Lord and her church, and her faith guided her through every season of life. She was known for her grace, her warmth, and her attention to detail—always beautifully put together. Liz had a wonderful eye for decorating and took great pride in making her home welcoming and beautiful.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren “Junior” Davis, Jr., whose passing forever changed her heart; her infant son, Keith Davis; her brothers Sonny Howell, James Howell, Bobby Howell, and Larry Howell; and her sisters Jean Cain and Betty Terry.
Liz is survived by her loving son, Timothy Davis, and devoted daughter-in-law, Judy Davis; her cherished granddaughters, Kelsey Lovelace (Bryan) and Karly Albin (Chad); and her precious great-grandchildren, Davis Lovelace, Addy Lovelace, Bowen Lovelace, Barrett Lovelace, and Baker Albin, who brought her immeasurable joy. She is also survived by her sisters, Nellie Poole, Linda White, and Joyce Dozier (Paul), along with many extended family members and friends.
While her family grieves her passing, they also find comfort and peace knowing that Liz is now whole and rejoicing in Heaven—reunited at last with her beloved husband, Junior, and son, Keith. Her faith sustained her, and she longed for the day she would see them again. That promise has now been fulfilled.
A celebration of Liz’s life will be held Tuesday, December 23, at Parkview Church of God in Yazoo City. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Liz’s life was a beautiful testimony of love, faith, creativity, and compassion. Her greatest legacy is her family.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’” — Proverbs 31:28-29
