A Yazoo County Circuit Court jury found a Durant man guilty of second degree murder following a recent three-day trial.
The verdict arrived on Dec. 19, 2024 when Dexter White was found guilty after a deliberation that lasted for over three hours in the 2017 murder of Correy Thomas.
According to District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver, White was charged in the shooting death of Thomas that took place August 1, 2017 in Vaughan.
"The defendant shot Thomas after both were attempting to rob an unnamed victim who played a pivotal role in leading to the jury’s guilty verdict of second-degree murder," Malone-Oliver said.
White was sentenced on Jan. 9 to 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
More details will appear in this week's edition of The Yazoo Herald.
