Another set of burglaries has been reported in Yazoo City as police officers continue to stake out the downtown area.
Police Chief Terry Gann, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said no arrests have been made as of press time. But he said his officers are heavily patrolling the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods late into the evening hours.
This week’s burglaries come shortly after a previous wave hit the downtown area a few weeks ago. Now, a suspect struck the Old Gringo Saloon and Restaurant on Main Street and some vehicles parked at Genesis Court Apartments.
Both acts were captured by video surveillance.
“We have video of the suspect breaking into a car at the apartments,” Gann said. “We also have video footage of him shaking door handles. We believe it is the same suspect who hit Old Gringo.”
Gann said increased patrol has been placed in the area over the last few nights.
“I have worked the beat myself,” Gann said. “There are some people who live on Main Street, and we ask them to be aware of their surroundings. Report anything that they might see. We are getting to the point if we see people riding bicycles at 2 a.m., we are checking on them.”
