The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department begins its efforts this week to deter loitering, trespassing and fighting at Shady Lane Apartments.
Possible fines and arrests could be forthcoming for potential violators within the local apartment complex, which has been an area of concern for years with outside loiters and aggressive altercations.
“The citizens of Shady Lane deserve to live safely in a crime-free area,” said Sheriff Jeremy McCoy. “And we will do our part.”
McCoy warns that loitering and trespassing will not be tolerated at the local apartment complex. Violators will be arrested, and unauthorized vehicles will be towed, he added.
“Deputies have been given a list provided by management of individuals who belong in that apartment complex,” McCoy said. “If you are caught outside of an apartment and your name is not on the list, you will be arrested. All residents must have a parking decal, otherwise your vehicle will be towed.”
McCoy also urged the public to be aware that arrests made after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays will not be eligible for bond until the next morning. If arrested after 4:30 p.m. over the weekend, bond will not be possible until Monday morning.
The growing concern of fighting and other altercations is also being addressed by deputies. Fighting and other altercations will now carry a $1,250 fine.
“Fights recorded on social media will also be pursued by the Sheriff’s Office, and anyone positively identified will be arrested that was involved in the fight,” McCoy added.
