A safety checkpoint on Highway 49 led to the arrest of three suspects that deputies believe were on their way to sneak contraband into one of the local correctional facilities.
The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department conducted a safety checkpoint last Thursday on Highway 49. Around 10 p.m., a vehicle with three occupants approached the checkpoint, and those occupants displayed “suspicious behavior,” according to deputies.
“Upon further investigation, several packs of cigarettes, cell phones, and Suboxone strips were found in the vehicle,” said Sheriff Jeremy McCoy. “We do believe this delivery was headed to one of our correctional facilities located here in Yazoo City.”
The identities of those three suspects could not be confirmed as of press time.
