The Yazoo Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution began the celebration of America’s 250th birthday by using a National DAR Grant to place Wi-Fi in the Ricks Memorial Library’s Conference Center and Genealogy room.
The dedication honoring our Founding Fathers and Patriots who fought in the American Revolution was held May 3 at the Library’s Conference Center. Sue Patterson, Yazoo Chapter Regent, told how this allows groups and individuals to hold genealogical workshops and other programs using Wi-Fi.The first group to use it was the American Red Cross.
Those present were treated to the use of the Wi-Fi by watching the National Committee’s America’s 250th Birthday video on a large screen.
Library Director Craig Wootten and Ward 4 Supervisor, David Peyton spoke briefly. Cindy Mangum, MSSDAR State Regent, gave greetings.
The Yazoo Chapter is celebrating America’s 250th birthday these next two years not only with the installation of Wi-Fi, but also with the publication of a birthday brochure. It was designed by Yazoo Chapter member Kelly Olivieri Jones and highlights the Founding Fathers as well as Female Patriots. These will be delivered to the local schools, libraries and other areas in the community during the next two years.
Visit Ricks Memorial Library, pick up a DAR 250 brochure and begin celebrating America’s 250 Birthday today.
