The Yazoo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented the DAR American History Teacher of the Year Award to Yazoo County High School Teacher Coach Corbin Ellis.
Ellis is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor in Education. In 2009 he became head Baseball Coach at Yazoo County High school while also teaching PE and Health. Soon he received his endorsement to teach Social Studies and taught every Social Studies class available.
Then nine years ago, he started teaching United States American History. These last four years the Yazoo County High School, scores in American History are some of the highest of the MAAP State Assessment.
While Yazoo Chapter congratulates Coach Ellis, he gives all the credit to his students who came into his class every day going above and beyond in their studies. He says,
“I was just steering the boat,” he said.
Coach Corbin Ellis also received some brochures about America’s 250 Birthday and the Revolutionary War Patriots and a 250 Ornament from the White House Historical Collection.
