The Yazoo County Convention and Visitors Bureau intends to move its tourism operation from the Four Points area into a historic landmark in Yazoo City.
Shanitra Finley, director of the Yazoo CVB, requested that the Yazoo County Board of Supervisors approve its budget, which included the potential purchase of the Manchester. The historic building, located at 118 E Broadway, is the former Yazoo City Elks Lodge.
“We are planning to purchase the Manchester,” Finley said. “We are trying to complete the closure of it, but we would need you to approve the budget first.”
Finley said the building purchase comes with a $225,000 price tag, but the Yazoo CVB had budgeted for $235,000 in the endeavor.
“This is going to be a pretty big building to maintain, isn’t it,” asked Supervisor David Berry.
Finley said the property would be used an “income property” with the ballroom rental and other opportunities. The purchase would also eliminate the rent being paid at its current location while giving life back to a historic building.
Built in 1905, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
The county board approved the budget with the building purchase included.
In other Yazoo CVB news, the county board also approved $2,500 to be used for future Christmas lighting and decorations at the various entrances into Yazoo City to enhance the current decorations in place within Yazoo City
