A Yazoo County man remains behind bars for his alleged involvement in a shooting earlier this month, as one of the two victims remains hospitalized.
William Perry, 24, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault last week after Yazoo County deputies brought him into custody.
Terry Gann, chief deputy with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said Perry was brought in for questioning involving a shooting that occurred on Nov. 19 on Martin Luther King Drive, near Shady Lane.
“Two victims were injured after shots were fired into the vehicle that they were both inside near the scene,” Gann said. “One of the victims was treated and released later that afternoon. But the other victim remains hospitalized at this time.”
Gann said Perry confessed to shooting inside the vehicle, but he said the shots were fired in self-defense.
“This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time, we are not seeing a lot of proof that this was an act of self-defense,” Gann said.
As of press time, Perry remained at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility.
