An afternoon shooting at a local apartment complex yesterday leaves a victim in the hospital and a suspect, who was also shot, on the run.
Det. Nolan Warrington, with the Yazoo City Police Department, said the shooting occurred around 4:16 p.m. yesterday at Broadmoor Village Apartments in Yazoo City. He said when officers arrived at the scene, both the victim and the suspect were not there.
“The victim drove himself to the hospital after he was shot multiple times,” Warrington said. “The suspect was also shot. But we have contacted all area hospitals, and as of now, he has not been to any of them to treat his injuries.”
Warrington said the altercation began in a vehicle with both the victim and the suspect inside. The suspect exited the vehicle and began firing multiple shots at the victim. He said the victim also returned fire, striking the suspect.
“Attempts were made to airlift the victim to a Jackson hospital,” Warrington said. “Weather posed an issue, and we are not sure if he was ever airlifted. But he was being transferred to a Jackson hospital.”
No other injuries were reported at the scene.
Warrington said investigators do have a person of interest and are attempting to locate him. Updates will be provided on The Yazoo Herald website and in the next print edition.
